Don't be fooled by fake news

Government is calling on South Africans to dismiss fake news about the COVID-19 vaccines. 

The Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) vaccines, which are being rolled-out in South Africa, are safe for use, says the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra).

Before vaccines and other medicines are administered, they must pass safety standards.

R11 billion allocated for jobs

The Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan is helping the country’s economy and people recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and recent unrest. 

The Presidential Employment Stimulus Package has allocated an additional R11 billion to support employment, as part of the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan (ERRP).

Help prevent suicide

More people die as a result of suicide than HIV, malaria, breast cancer, war and homicide.

This is according to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) latest statistics, which show that over 700 000 people die by suicide each year – that is one in every 100 deaths and approximately one person every 40 seconds.

“We cannot – and must not – ignore suicide,” says Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the WHO.

DUT Ninjas win Makerthon

Six KwaZulu-Natal students have invented a wearable device to help curb the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the workplace.

The students who are studying towards an information and communications technology (ICT) qualification at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), are called DUT Ninjas after building a prototype with ultrasonic sensors that measure the distance between two objects. If a person is less than one metre away from another, the device beeps.
