Aspiring furniture designer wins design competition

Final-year Industrial Design student at the University of Johannesburg, Tshepiso Motau, recently won the Furniture Design Competition in a ceremony hosted by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic).

Tshepiso MotauMotau, who hails from Centurion, Gauteng designed an eye-catching and colourful room divider with Ndebele patterns inspired by internationally acclaimed artist, Dr Esther Mahlangu.

Since then, I have not been able to find work. I have a matric certificate and tertiary education.

Work experience programme opening doors for young people

Many young people in South Africa find it difficult to get jobs because they don’t have any work experience. They come out of school, university or college with qualifications, but many employers are looking for people with experience.

 That is why, in 2018, we launched the Youth Employment Service (YES), an ambitious partnership with the private sector to address the crisis of youth unemployment. The initiative works with companies to provide work experience opportunities for young people.

New traffic trainees to increase law enforcement on roads

The first cohort of traffic trainees have completed a ground-breaking three-year intensive training are ready to be deployed on the roads to ensure that law and order are maintained.

The training was administered by the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).

The programme has been accredited as an equivalent of a National Diploma level (NQF Level 6) by the Quality Council of Trades and Occupation.
