The Democracy Bus recently visited Kokosi Foschville Township and Munsieville Sports Ground, where the Department of Social Development led a pre-mobilisation for the Ke Moja Activation and Service Delivery Blitz. The event, which aimed to raise awareness about substance abuse, also focused on providing support to the wider community.

The event, was a mix of workshops, open discussions, and personal stories, aimed to address the ongoing struggles many face with addiction and to find ways to support each other in building stronger and healthier communities.

A local community leader of Kokosi, Ndoda Ndubata said, “Today, we are not just celebrating freedom, we are talking about mental health, healing, and the future of our community. Substance abuse is not just a personal problem, it is something that impacts us all. We need to stand together to break the cycle of abuse and protect our youth from going down the same path.”

At the Munsieville Sports Ground, local leaders, health workers, and social service providers engaged with residents, offering guidance, education, and practical solutions. Various outreach programmes, including counseling services, were made available, providing immediate help and connecting individuals to long-term support.

Pastor Khauhelo Gift Teu of Munsieville spoke about the challenges of substance abuse and the importance of freedom and democracy.

“As we mark 30 years of democracy, I call for a collective effort to address the struggles within our communities and create a future built on compassion, healing and unity.”

Kgalalelo Mokgosi, a team leader of the Munsieville Brigaders said, “It was such an impactful day, celebrating 30 years of freedom and democracy while also addressing such an important issue within our community.

The event not only raised awareness about substance abuse but also provided real support to those who need it most. It was great to see so many people coming together to learn, share, and take steps toward a healthier future. Here's to continued progress and unity in our communities.”

The events served as an important step in addressing substance abuse and providing much-needed support to the community of Munsiville and beyond. ¥
