Book rallies men against the abuse of women and children

Written by Anele Zikali

In a deeply personal mission shaped by the emotional void of growing up without a father, Charley Pietersen has penned his groundbreaking book, 'SA Men Arise!' Charley Pietersen calling on men to fight GBVF.

Aimed at inspiring South African men to combat gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), the book serves as a call to action for societal change.

“I was raised by a single mother, as my father left me when I was a baby. I saw my mother struggle as a single parent doing everything alone. She encouraged me and my older brother to be knowledgeable, to love ourselves and to be confident,” Pietersen recalled during a recently held book launch in Johannesburg, Gauteng.

Pietersen asked 61 men to make contributions from their own experiences and these are published in his book where they advise other men on how to deal with their traumas and also how to unite and fight GBVF.

“Violence against women and children can be stopped by us men if we unite and stop looking the other way. We know who the perpetrators are, so let us stand up and speak out against them,” writes Pietersen on page 35 of his book.

Pietersen is the founder of the Growing Up Without a Father South African Foundation, he is also a motivational speaker, facilitator, and life coach.

He also urged men to stop bottling up issues, explaining that it is okay to cry and to look for help when dealing with mental challenges and traumas.

“It is high time that the spotlight is shone on the challenges that men face.We should get help and get tested regularly for stress, depression, mental health, prostate cancer and general wellness,” he advises.
