Parents urged to choose safe school transport

The 2025 school year began on 15 January, and parents are encouraged to carefully choose safe transport for their children.

The National Learner Transport Policy (NLTP) was introduced in 2015 by the Department of Transport working with the Department of Basic Education.

The programme aims to ensure safe, reliable, and affordable transport for learners, especially those in grades R to 12 who live far from schools. Despite this, many families still rely on private transport providers.

Register for the Second Chance Matric Programme

Learners who did not meet the requirements to pass the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or wish to improve their results can register for the Department of Basic Education's Second Chance Matric Programme by 27 February 2025.

The programme offers support to learners writing matric exams part-time. To register, applicants need only two documents: a copy of their identity document or passport, and their statement of matric results or matric certificate.
