Umalusi has awarded accreditation certificates to deserving private education institutions in recognition of their compliance to its rigid accreditation standards.

In line with its legislative mandate as the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, Umalusi hosted an Accreditation Forum and Certificate Presentation ceremony to award accreditation certificates to institutions that met accreditation criteria to offer the qualifications that are registered on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Sub[1]Framework.

Since I announced changes to Cabinet recently, there has been much discussion about the size of the executive. This is an important discussion and I welcome it. But much of the commentary misses the point.

The discussion has unfortunately been reduced to a head counting exercise. It is argued by some that any decrease in the number of Ministers is good and any increase is bad.

Resilience, self-belief, and the determination to never give up are the ingredients needed to enter the highly competitive construction industry.

This is according to Phiwokuhle Manana (25), who owns a construction, transportation and plant hire business called Morning Rise, in Mpumalanga.

He says his passion for the industry started after he matriculated and managed to get a job as a construction worker.

“I was a supervisor for the plant so I ended up liking this industry. I also saw this as an opportunity to open my own business,” he said.

Sebokeng residents will enjoy improved access to free health care services as the brand-new building for Zone 17 clinic in Sebokeng in Gauteng has been completed.

It comes with better services that residents could not experience in the old building that was small with limited services on offer.

The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) has a funding programme that helps students in the chemicals industry to settle their university debts.

During the 2021/22 financial year, the CHIETA established Lesedi Youth Fund to provide funding for students who are in their final years of study and require funding assistance to complete and obtain their qualifications.

A Food Safety Quality Assurer works within the hospitality industry to ensure that there are adequate practices that prevent food contamination during handling and distribution.

Nelisiwe Tshabangu (33) from Pretoria in Gauteng is now a Food Safety Assurer student at the Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria thanks to the Department of Tourism.

Tshabangu was part of a one-year Food Safety Quality Assurer programme, that was hosted by the Department of Tourism.

Surviving a harrowing rape ordeal that pushed her to a suicide attempt in 2016, Bonakalisile Ngquba found an escape from the traumatic encounter in waste-picking.

Eight years later, Ngquba, through her business Imbokodo Green Works, employs 11 permanent staff. The start-up also indirectly supports about 100 waste harvesters.

Imbokodo is a recovery recycling centre that sorts, deals and bales waste. The bales are then shipped to processors.

Budding mixed farming prodigy, Kelebohile Matsose, produces her own chia plant tea, called Feel Good Tea, from her recently acquired farm in Makwassie, near Wolmaransstad - Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality.

After relative success in livestock and crop farming, Matsose in 2022 turned to producing her own tea. This was after she was introduced to chia tea and flax seeds while attending an Agricultural Research Council training programme.
