As of 1 March 2023, the wages of domestic workers and farm labourers have increased by 9.6%.
This was recently announced by Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi.
“The percentage increase for farmworkers and domestic workers will translate to R25.42 per hour, whilst the EPWP will be R13.97,” the Department of Employment and Labour said in a statement.
Wages for workers
If a domestic worker or a farm worker gets paid R25.42 per month and works eight hours per day for five days of the week, they should be paid R1 016.80. In a month the employer must pay you R4 067.20.
Those working in EPWP and getting paid R13.97 should be paid R558.80 per week and R2 235 per month for working 20 days for 8 hours a day.
“The National Minimum Wage Act was agreed to with the aim of protecting low-earning workers in South Africa and providing a platform for inequality reduction.”
“This significant increase will benefit 892 000 domestic workers and 800 000 farmworkers,” he said. - SAnews.gov.za
