A Limpopo business is growing from strength to strength after it successfully rendered its services on a road construction project on the R37 as a sub-contract.
Bogaleng Thsehla, of BMT Royal Kid Laundry and Projects (Pty) LTD, is one of the 26 small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) that benefitted to the tune of R160 million from the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral). The 33-month project created 424 employment opportunities.
The upgrading of the R37 is aimed at addressing increasing traffic volumes and road safety concerns while also improving connectivity between Burgersfort and Polokwane.
The 25-kilometre project is part of the 18 Sanral-led rehabilitation projects in the Sekhukhune District Municipality.
Thsehla’s company created 33 jobs during its time on the project.
“I started this company because I was unemployed at the time and I wanted something that would challenge me,” she said.
Since 2022, BMT Royal Kid Laundry and Projects (Pty) LTD was responsible for constructing v-drains, gabions, edge beams, edge fillings as well as curbs on the R37.
“My message to other women out there wanting to join the industry is that everything is possible if you believe in yourself.”
She expressed gratitude to Sanral for trusting her company to gain valuable experience while working on the project.
She was very vocal about the benefits of Sanral’s SMME training and development programme that she participated in.
“When the contract comes to an end, I will leave with skills in Occupational Health and Safety, backfilling and demolition, installation of mash wares, soft board concrete work and flagging. I have also learnt how to produce a daily foreman’s report.
“I can bid for other tenders without fear because Sanral taught me many things. It has changed the lives of local contractors,” concluded Thsehla.
