The Kota Festival Tour which was exclusively launched in Gauteng in 2023 is set to expand nationwide, bringing its vibrant celebration to provinces across South Africa.
This is made possible by the sponsorship commitment of Tiger Brands’ bread brand Albany, which is a title sponsor of the festival tour for the next three years.
According to Tiger Brands, the event is a significant township economy initiative that will support the employment of over 2 000 individuals in the country’s informal market.
Marketing Director at Albany, Lorraine de Graaff, said Albany is all about authenticity.
“We celebrate the single mother, the young single guy, and everyday South Africans working hard to make a life for themselves… people whose lives may not be picture-perfect but who trust Albany to deliver real, wholesome meals. These meals might not always look perfect, but they’re always delicious and fulfilling,” she said.
Along with creating jobs, Tiger Brands, through its Enterprise and Supplier Development support structure will provide business skills training to the organisers of the Kota Festival Tour, including the vendors participating in the festival.
Tiger Brands said the support is designed to enhance business acumen, empowering those operating in the informal market to grow into profitable and sustainable enterprises.
The Kota Festival Tour provides Tiger Brands an opportunity to recognise the importance played by the informal sector in the economy, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting job creation and empowering people within communities.
In a demonstration of cross-brand collaboration to enhance its offering at the Kota Festival Tour, Albany has partnered with All Gold, South Africa’s number-one Tomato Sauce.
Marketing Director at All Gold, Angel Musoni, said: “For more than 100 years, All Gold has been enjoyed by South Africans and beyond the country’s borders because it is crammed full of goodness. No kota is complete without All Gold Tomato Sauce for a great taste experience,” said Musoni.
The Albany Kota Festival will tour different parts of South Africa and begin in the East Rand on the 1st of March 2025 and end in Pretoria on 29 November 2025. Brand Manager at Albany Abongile Dzai said entrepreneurs and vendors who would like to participate in the Kota Festival Tour should apply through the Kota Festival website to secure a stall.
“When they apply, vendors should indicate which event they are interested in because there are different dates and venues for the tour. Applicants will be vetted, and they will be updated on the status of their application over time. Participating in the festival will provide them with networking opportunities within the food and beverage industry,” he said.
